Client rights & complaints.

You can ask questions, disagree, change your mind, raise a concern or contact an independent complaints body. Doing so should not disadvantage your care.

Your rights.

  • Respectful, non-discriminatory and competent care within the practitioner’s area of practice.
  • Clear information about the service, fees, records, privacy, risks and alternatives.
  • The right to choose, ask questions, disagree, ask for corrections and change your mind about consent.
  • The ability to decline an activity, optional AI note-taking or non-essential information sharing.
  • Privacy and confidentiality, subject to lawful limits.
  • Access to or correction of health information, subject to lawful limits.
  • A clear way to pause or end the service, move to another practitioner or seek another opinion.
  • Feedback and complaints without retaliation.

Feedback & complaints.

You may raise a concern directly with The Exit Clinic. You may use a support person or advocate and ask for a safe communication method. Using TEC’s internal process is optional and does not prevent you from contacting an external body directly.

Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC)
Enquiry line: 1800 043 159
The HCCC handles complaints about health services and registered and non-registered health practitioners in NSW, including counsellors.

If anyone is in immediate danger, call 000 or attend the nearest emergency department. TEC’s routine messages and forms are not continuously monitored.

NSW Code of Conduct.

The official NSW Health document below contains the Code of Conduct for non-registered health practitioners and the approved information about making a complaint to the HCCC. This statutory material is provided in addition to TEC’s own client-rights summary above.

If the document does not display in your browser, use the “Open the official NSW Code & HCCC notice” link above.

Privacy concerns.

Privacy concerns may also be raised with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the Information and Privacy Commission NSW where relevant.
