A starting point, not a label.
A helpful relationship can include challenge, structure and a difference in expertise. Those features alone do not establish abuse. We can consider what was agreed, how decisions were made, how concerns were received and whether you could obtain other support.
The page below covers individual helping relationships. For pressure within a group programme, see self-help, coaching and wellness groups. For a faith-related concern, see spiritual abuse and religious trauma.
Personal support is separate from deciding whether misconduct occurred. We do not investigate practitioners, determine complaints or provide an expert legal opinion through counselling. You can seek information from an independent complaints body without first obtaining TEC’s agreement.
